Justin Duty takes pair of MLRA top-10 results, John finishes 8th at Willamette

Double Duty Motorsports lived up to its name over the Labor Day weekend.

While Justin Duty was taking on a three-race swing with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA), his father John was competing in a Super Late Model with the Coors Light I-5 Silver Bullet Series in the Pacific Northwest.

The action opened for Justin Duty on Friday when he was one of 34 MLRA competitors on hand at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) for the first night of the ninth annual Ron Jenkins Memorial. After being unable to finish his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval, Duty transferred his Don Frank Floors No. 15 machine to the feature with a third-place B-Main result. He started the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win race from the 20th position and finished 16th.

On Saturday, the field at the “The Diamond of Dirt Tracks” increased to 35 MLRA drivers in search of the night’s $11,000 top prize. Duty came home seventh in his heat and missed a transfer spot to the main event with a fourth-place finish in his B-Main. However, he used a provisional to start 23rd on the grid. He charged forward 13 positions in the 40-lap feature and grabbed a 10th-place result.

The MLRA schedule then shifted to Moberly Motorsports Park (Moberly, Missouri) on Sunday for the third annual Wiener Nationals. Duty was one of 27 MLRA participants at the 4/10-mile speed plant.

He finished fourth in his heat and began the 30-lap, $10,000-to-win main event from the 11th position. Duty steadily worked his way forward and finished fifth, trailing Bobby Pierce, Chris Simpson, Dillon McCowan and Chad Simpson under the checkered flag.

Duty now sits sixth in the MLRA point standings.

Meanwhile, halfway across the country on Sunday evening, John Duty was taking part in the Coors Light Silver Bullet Nationals at the 1/3-mile Willamette Speedway (Lebanon, Oregon). Duty was one of 24 Super Late Model drivers on hand for the Coors Light Silver Bullet I-5 Series championship night.

He drove his No. 5 car to sixth in his heat and second in the trophy dash, and used a B-Feature victory to transfer to the 50-lap main event. Duty started 16th and worked his way forward throughout the race to take an eighth-place finish.
